The Image of Melancholy (BIS-2057 SACD)

A personal reflection on melancholy, with a programme of melodies from Norwegian and British folk heritage, the renaissance and Baroque periods, and newly composed tunes. Released in 2014, it is hard to get hold of a physical copy of The Image of Melancholy now.

London Calling (BISSACD1997)

A portrait of Handel through arias performed by the Norwegian mezzo-soprano Tuva Semmingsen. The vocal works are interspersed with instrumental works by two of Handel’s Italian contemporaries, Corelli and Geminiani. Released in 2012, this was Bjarte Eike and Barokksolistene’s first album release.

Collaborations with other artists

One Music - Solamente naturali and Barokksolistene (PM01872)

One Music was a beautiful project developed with Milos Valent and his Slovakia-based ensemble Solamente naturali.
The recording combines melodies copied down from archives in the Slavic and Nordic countries along with new works inspired by the old material.
Released in 2025 on Pavian Records.

Schubert: Die Schöne Müllerin - Thomas Guthrie and Barokksolistene (RCD1086)

A re-imagining of Schubert’s well-loved song cycle by our dear friend Thomas Guthrie. Tom made the arrangements of the songs for string quintet and guitars, as well as creating new translations to English.
Released in 2023 on Rubicon Classics.

Siwan - Jon Balke, Amina Alaoui (ECM Records, ECM2042)

We have a long-standing collaboration with the Norwegian jazz pianist and composer Jon Balke, and are proud to be part of his Siwan project. Siwan is a transnational, transcultural project that takes its inspiration from the poetry of Al-Andalus, a period when three major cultures co-existed and exchanged artistic and scientific ideas.
This recording was released in 2009 on ECM.
